If you need to make changes to your courses...
You will first need to make an appointment with us in University Counselling,
You will need to go through a process whereby permissions from teachers, your Advisor, and your parents will need to be confirmed.
The deadline for all course changes will be Thanksgiving... because you need to think about the work required to catch up in a new course!
There are LOTS of exciting visits and events scheduled that Grade 12 students are invited to attend, including the annual Vancouver Island College Event (VICE) fair at SMUS. They are all listed on MaiaLearning...
***NOTE: you must sign up for these visits/events at least ONE DAY prior to the scheduled day/time, or else MaiaLearning will not permit you to Attend!

Remember what was said during the University Counselling Orientation Presentation:
As application portals open up (now and into NEXT MONTH), you may be tempted to fire off the simple ones. Please DO NOT! Follow our guidance and work with us on this all-important process.
Remember what was said during the University Counselling Orientation Presentation:
We will be reminding you about our DUE DATE-DO DATE policy very often over the course of the fall, but it is important that you sear it into your brains now! Plan ahead and get the work done in a timely fashion! It's a proven approach, so adhere to it, and your applications will thank you!!
While there have been murmurs about certain application platforms opening up prior to October 1, there is no advantage whatsoever in submitting an application NOW versus after Thanksgiving... Please trust us on this, there is no need to move on this immediately.
In our next round of UC Blocks (October 1-8), we will be helping you set up your application accounts for British Columbia (Education Planner BC) and Ontario (OUAC) universitie. With those in place, you will be able to make appointments to start discussing next steps with your applications... After Thanksgiving!

Students whose first language is one other than English, you may very well have to prove your English proficiency to universities by means of a test like TOEFL or IELTS. If you have been at Brentwood since Grade 9, that is often enough for many Canadian universities. If you have been at Brentwood for 3 years or less, and/or you are planning to apply to universities outside of Canada, you must come in to review the Proof of English Proficiency policies of your universities of choice. These policies can vary wildly, and if require a test at even one university on your list, then we need to make plans for you to write TOEFL or IELTS sooner rather than later.
TOEFL and IELTS tests are available locally in Victoria, Nanaimo, and Vancouver, as well at locations around the world. Please come in to discuss options. If you are in doubt about whether you will need to write, come in. IF ENGLISH IS NOT YOUR FIRST LANGUAGE, COME IN TO CONFIRM REGARDLESS!
