Timelines

Post-Secondary Planning involves different processes that stretch out over several years at Brentwood, and is very different depending on where students are looking to apply. Here we have outlined the timelines of key components involved in those different processes.

General Timelines by Grade

Grade 12

Before Start of School

    • Make any necessary course changes to ensure admission requirements are satisfied

September

    • Attend presentation outline University Counselling expectations and processes for Grade 12

    • Meet with University Counsellors to review plans for applications

    • Set up Ministry transcript accounts

    • UK Applicants to "Ox-bridge" & Medicine/Dentistry/Veterinary Medicine: complete Application and Personal Statement by September 15th

October

    • Canadian Applicants: Establish university application accounts

    • UK Applicants to "Ox-bridge" & Medicine/Dentistry/Veterinary Medicine: UCAS Application Deadline = October 15th

    • US Applicants:

      • Early Decision/Early Applications to be complete by October 1st

      • take the October SAT, if required

      • University of California Applications to be complete by October 31st

Fall Term

    • Continue attending University Visits & Presentations

    • US Applicants: continue attending "USA Sundays" program; continue Personal and Supplementary Essay writing process

    • International Students: taking English proficiency tests (TOEFL, IETLS, etc.), as required

November

    • Canadian Applicants:

      • Early UBC Applications to be complete by November 1st

      • Begin submitting other applications

    • US Applicants:

      • Early Decision/Early Action Application Deadlines = November 1st or November 15th

      • University of Washington Application Deadline = November 15th

      • All US University Applications with January 1st Deadlines to be complete by November 15th

      • University of California Application Deadlines = November 30th

December

    • Canadian Applicants:

      • Regular UBC Application to be complete by December 1st

      • Ivey HBA Supplemental Application to be complete by December 1st

      • Continue submitting other applications

    • US Applicants:

      • Take December SAT, if required

      • Continue reviewing US Applications and SUBMIT ALL APPLICATIONS before departure for Winter Holidays

    • UK Applicants:

      • UCAS Personal Statement to be complete by December 1st

January

    • Canadian Applicants:

      • Regular UBC Application Deadline = January 15th

      • Ivey HBA Supplemental Application Deadline = January 15th

      • McGill University, University of Victoria, Simon Fraser University Application Deadline = January 31st

      • Continue submitting remaining applications

    • UK Applicants:

      • UCAS Application Deadline = January 25th

February

    • Canadian Applicants:

      • Queen's Application Deadline = February 1st

March

    • Canadian Applicants:

      • SUBMIT ALL remaining applications by March 1st

Spring Term

    • Make decisions about Campus Choice

    • Complete required applications for housing

    • Explore and/or Complete Course Registration process

    • Continue working to meet admission offer conditions

    • International Students: apply for/renew student visas

Grade 11

Fall Term

    • Begin attending University Visits and Presentations.

    • US Applicants: Continue your SAT Practice & Preparation.

October

    • US Applicants: take the PSAT National Merit Scholarship Program Qualification only.

February

    • Grade 11 Presentation on Post-Secondary opportunities Around the World

    • US Applicants: begin their Program "USA Sundays".

    • Introduction to Course Selection and Planning for Grade 12

    • Make Grade 12 Courses Selections with Parents based on Post-Secondary Plans.

March

    • US Applicants: plan on taking the SAT for the first time.

    • Have conversations with Advisors and Teachers to ensure that Grade 12 Courses Selections make sense given academic progress and make adjustments to selections as needed.

Spring Term

    • Meet individually with University Counsellors to review and confirm Grade 12 Course Selections.

    • US Applicants: continue attending "USA Sundays" to develop campus list and plan for Personal Essay writing.

May

    • US Applicants: plan on taking the May SAT.

June

    • US Applicants: confirm a preliminary list of US Campuses and make plans to visit over the summer; complete and review first draft of Personal Essay.

    • UK Applicants to "Ox-bridge": complete and review first draft of Personal Statement and plan for admissions testing.

    • UK/Overseas Applicants to Medicine/ Dentistry/Veterinary Medicine: plan for summer practical experience and admissions testing.

Summer

    • US Applicants: visit campuses to narrow your List; complete available application forms like the CommonApp. Plan on taking the August SAT

    • UK/Overseas Applicants to Medicine/ Dentistry/Veterinary Medicine: complete practical experience and admissions testing.

Grade 10

February

    • Introduction to Course Selection and Planning for Grade 11

Winter midterm

    • Make Grade 11 Courses Selections with Parents, keeping in mind potential Post-Secondary Plans.

March

    • Have conversations with Advisors and Teachers to ensure that Grade 11 Courses Selections make sense given academic progress and make adjustments to selections as needed.

April

    • Take the PSAT 10 if interested in Applying to US Universities.

Spring Term

    • Meet individually with University Counsellors to review and confirm Grade 11 Course Selections.

Summer

    • US Applicants: Begin SAT Practice & Preparation based on data from PSAT 10 results... think seriously about taking an SAT Prep Course.
